Gift Types

U of L Society: The U of L Society was created in 1989 to honor University supporters who have given or pledged cumulative gifts of $50,000 or more. Members provide the cornerstone of support that maintains academic excellence for the University and provides funding for state-of-the-art facilities.

1798 Society: The 1798 Society is comprised of donors who give $1,000 or more to U of L annually. These donors can designate their gifts to a specific department, program or scholarship, or they can request their contribution be used where it is most needed.

Second Century Society: The Second Century Society is a giving club of the School of Dentistry. Members join at four levels: Keystone ($1,000 given over three years), Strategic ($1,500 over three years), Distinguished ($5,000 over five years) or Lifetime ($25,000 or more).

Student Scholarships: Donations to student scholarships are in the form of gifts, pledges and bequests, as well as outright gifts and matching gifts.

Individual Donors: In FY 2003, 14,095 people made personal gifts to the university (excluding gifts by corporations and foundations). Of these, 8,761 donors were U of L alumni.

Annual Fund: The Annual Fund raises money in cash through direct mail, phonathon calls and one-on-one solicitations. Over the last three years, contributions to the Annual Fund have steadily increased, from $2.4 million in FY 2001, to $2.8 million in FY 2002, to $3.1 million in FY 2003.

Matching Gifts: The University received $325,121 in matching gifts in FY 2003. This is an increase of more than $43,000 over the previous year. Many companies offer the benefit of Matching Gifts programs. An employee's charitable gift may be matched by his or her company 1:1 or even 5:1.

Stock Gifts: In FY 2003, U of L alumni and friends made gifts of stock to the university valued at $794,051.
